Been a while since the last post. Reason? Xbox and making music. Yes, I have been hard at work trying to beat Prototype (which I did, in record time) and stringing together melodies that might please the masses.
Anywho - two new tracks sitting in my harddrive. Incomplete, sadly, but I do know what I want to do with them, which is great, and a first! :D
I’ve also noticed that I’ve developed a certain way of playing - my signature tone, if you will - but I’m not really happy with it. Gonna spend the next few days playing around in new keys, and discovering new note patterns.
Been listening to a lot of The Black Keys, Baths, Animal Collective, Incubus, and Guthrie Govan for inspiration…and it has come by the truckload.
Let’s see what tomorrow has in store for me.
goodnight.
Andy Timmons’ Electric Gypsy was probably my introduction to a style of music that wasn’t ‘roided on gain, and free from flashy (read: unnecessarily fast) lines. This was music that came from an undisturbed connection between instrument and heart/soul. Props to ol’ Andy.
Andy James is one of my idols, who have it all down - the technique, the feel, and the style. While this is the exact opposite of what Timmons does, you have the admire the man for his proficiency. Speed picking is done at all the right times, and I absolutely admire/envy his ability to swoop into those melodic lines straight from burning frets.
These are our weapons.
With these, we will dismantle the cosmos.
So, I suppose it’s about time that I started a blog about the band and what’s happening.
(Plus, summer’s really boring, so the writing will help kill the bushel of ample free time in my possession.)
We finally got together for a solid jam today, and it was muchos fun. Nothing beats the joy of knowing that you’re going into the process of making music with no expectation, and ending up with a bunch of cool stuff.
Before the guys got here, I laid down the teaser version of “Red Light Kisses”. I don’t think the track’s going to be played live - it’s more of a personal side project; one that explores sonic landscapes more than melody lines, and odd patterns.
We’ve been working on 3 new songs, and they’re shaping up nicely (not to toot our own horn, in any way).
The “jam room” looks quite nice, but the problem lies in the fact that it’s set up in the TV room, and I have to move the kit before daddy jee gets back home. Sigh.
Here’s to hoping the neighbors don’t complain.
Till next time,
